Presentation on emigration from Germany by Andrea Bentschneider now available online

From 15 to 17 June 2019, the International German Genealogy Conference took place in Sacramento. Andrea Bentschneider was there as a speaker. She gave three presentations. You can now listen to the first one on the topic "Emigration from Hamburg and Bremen in the 19th Century – Causes, Conditions, and Certificates". It is available online on our website.

How many people emigrated through Hamburg and Bremen every year? How long did the voyage take? Where did they emigrate to? Besides answering these questions, the presentation addresses the reasons for emigration, too. It gives information on the living conditions of the emigrants as well as the circumstances aboard the emigration vessels. Also, the requirements for emigration are explained.

Of course, Andrea Bentschneider also talks about the importance of passenger lists for genealogy and where they can be found, if they are preserved.

If you would like to find out more about the emigration from Hamburg and Bremen, if you are interested in numbers regarding the two emigration ports Hamburg and Bremen, or if you are curious about special persons that can be found on the passenger lists, you can find the lecture here.
